The highly acclaimed and popular play Dance Like A Man is coming to Dubai. The play is written by Sahitya Academy Award-winning writer Mahesh Dattani and directed by the veteran theatre and film actress Lillette Dubey. It has a stellar cast comprising names from Indian cinema, theatre, and television, including Lillette Dubey, Ananth Mahadevan, Suchitra Pillai, and Joy Sengupta.

Dance Like A Man revolves around the couple, Jairaj and Ratna, both classical dancers, and maps the struggles they had to face in the course of their dancing careers. Amritlal Parekh, Jairaj’s autocratic father opposes their dancing and becomes the epitome of patriarchal subjugation in the play. It has generously expressed the social issues of contemporary Indian society. The theme of the play deals with tradition, relationships, career, and society. A brilliant study of human relationships and weaknesses framed by the age-old battle between tradition and youthful rebellion, Dance Like A Man has been hailed as one of the best works of the dramatic imagination in recent times.

After staging more than 600 shows across the world Dance Like A Man is set to educate and entertain the Dubai audience. It is one of the most popular and longest-running English Plays from India, running for around 22 years. Commenting on the same, the organiser Jyoti Easwaran, said, “We are privileged to host this classic play Dance Like A Man in Dubai where some of the finest actors from the Indian film Industry, theatre, and OTT will come together to perform the classic written by Mahesh Dattani. It is indeed a rare opportunity to see the highly acclaimed play of this stature.”

“A family drama that can make you laugh and cry, Dance Like A Man’s appeal lies in its universal themes of humanity,” says director Lillette Dubey. Dance is a creative expression of storytelling, which is profound beyond the limitations of verbal understanding. Mahesh Dattani’s Dance Like A Man is one such English drama that explores the parent-child relationship, the emotions underneath, and the concept of masculinity. With simple yet artistic elements adorning the stage the almost two-hour play will bring out the fragile nature in familial relationships.
